Wherefore art thou, blogroll?

Category musings
I know, that's not the right use of "wherefore": the word actually means "why". So, in Romeo and Juliet, she's asking "why are you Romeo?" - not (as the word is now typically used) asking "hey, where'd he go?" As the daughter of Lord Capulet, she's vividly aware of how bitter the feud is with the Montagues, and essentially ruminating on the irony that, now that she's fallen for someone, why did it have to be him? Whereas you're now asking, why is he babbling about all this? Apparently I'm in a weird mood.

Anyway, the blogroll went away. It was rather outdated - if I'd kept it current, it'd be almost 100 links by now. One of my favorite features of Google Reader is the "Share" button: any time an article catches my eye, I can add it to the "Check These Out" section of my site with a single click. In my opinion, that's more useful than having a blogroll. If you're visiting the site because something alerted you to its content, you're probably interested in finding additional related content, so chances are something that I found intriguing will intrigue you as well. Linking to 100 blogs just relegates you to sifting through each until you find articles that prove useful. So that is why (wherefore?) the blogroll is gone.

The Google ads are gone as well, but that's just because they were annoying me.

Gravatar Image1 - When I have started reading blogs, I used the blog rolls to discover other interesting blogs. After one or two weeks I had collected enough and now I do not look at blog rolls. But I think, they are still valuable for "beginners".
