Ext.nd Example: DomTunes
Category domino
I've been playing today with the iTunes COM for Windows SDK, creating a "just for fun" application I call DomTunes. It will fill a couple of gaps in the functionality of iTunes - such as keeping the library clean and current - as well as adding multimedia integration to Notes. I'll OpenNTF it if it turns out to be something I think would be useful to others. In the meantime, although it'll primarily be a local tool, I figured it'd make a good example of how easy it is to create a sharp-looking web interface with Ext.nd, so I replicated it to the server and dropped in the Ext.nd elements. You can check it out here. If you've ever wondered what music I listen to, now's your chance to find out... but don't laugh... there's a significant amount of tracks from CD's I'm now ashamed to have purchased ( *cough* Ace of Base *cough* ).

Very nice! Hopefully, really soon, we'll release Alpha 2 which includes support for actionbars and single category views.

By the way, don't be ashamed that you bought the ace of base disc. Instead be ashamed that you imported it into iTunes...

I have just recently joined the iPod revolution and have 391 songs on my Nano (with far more embarrassing content than yours). BTW, I am a big BNL fan too. Seriously though: Bette Midler. Wow. :-P
First let me say that I am impressed by how incredibly intuitive and easy to use both iTunes and the iPod are (and I HATE macs). Regardless, I thought I'd share my iPod/iTunes gripes for you to stew on.
#1 - No way to update song info or delete songs FROM the iPod. Sometimes, I THINK I want a song on my iPod until it actually comes up in the shuffle and wonder what the hell I was thinking. I guess I'm just used to Notes' ability to delete from either "replica" and have it synch.
#2: iTunes and/or connected iPod BLUE SCREENS my XP SP2 PC periodically (never had a blude screen in 5 years before installing it.
#3: If I have iTunes as my default player, it auto-adds every song I play to my Library, which I may not want to synch to my iPod (didn't research if there is a way to prevent this, so I just removed it as my default player).
#4: I can't put a song in multiple genres? I guess I'm just used to multi-value fields and categorized views in Notes.
I'm sure I have more, but I'm too busy to document them all here.

@4 - Mayhap I can address at least one of those gripes: the genre field in DomTunes is multi-value, but when updating ID3 tags from within Notes, only the first value in the field will be included. So from Notes you can locate tracks by all genres with which you have associated them, but in iTunes (and on your 'Pod), the track will be associated only with its "primary" genre.
The iTunes API is fairly extensive, so you'll be able to play music, sync your iPod, subscribe to podcasts, import CDs, etc., directly from Notes... all without opening iTunes. Why bother? For those of us who are in Notes all day (and night, upon occasion) long, why keep a separate software open if we don't need to? Muhahaaaa. Um, that's supposed to be an evil laugh. Doesn't have quite the same effect in ASCII form.......
